Twitter compares with discussions on Blackboard by making all the students involved. It is always great to hear everyone's opinions and views on topics. However, using Twitter for a class discussion is much more efficient and fun than Blackboard. The word count allows the tweets/comments to be subtle and straight to the point. On Blackboard the long dreadful comments often go off tangent and change the point of the discussion, sometimes would be good but often not optimal.
Twitter discussion may be more compared to an in-class discussion because the comments of the students are straight to the point. However, in a discussion questions aren't really asked opposed to the many questions asked in class.
However, overall Twitter discussions may be the most efficient way to have a class discussion.
